Photos are harder to read than scans. The page is rarely flat, the light is rarely even and the angle is rarely square. Traditional OCR needs all three to be right. ImagToText uses an AI vision model that reads a photo the way a person reads it, so a page shot at an angle under a desk lamp still comes out as clean text with the original line breaks.
iPhone photos are saved as HEIC by default and are accepted as-is. Android photos are JPG and work instantly. Photos up to 10 MB are supported, which covers full-resolution images from any current phone.
Fill the frame with the text. Get close enough that the page or sign takes up most of the photo. Small text in a wide shot has too few pixels per letter.
Kill the glare. Glossy paper, laminated menus and screens throw a white reflection over the text. Turn off the flash and tilt the page slightly away from the light source.
Hold still and tap to focus. Motion blur is the most common reason a photo reads badly. Tap the text on screen so the camera focuses on it rather than the background.
One page per photo. Two facing book pages in a single photo halves the resolution of each. Photograph them separately, or use the PDF to text converter for multi-page documents you already have as PDF.
On a phone, tap the camera button and photograph the document, sign or page. On a computer, drag the photo in or paste it. HEIC, JPG and PNG all work.
The AI reads the photo, corrects for angle and lighting in its interpretation, and returns the text with the original line structure.

Printed pages. Books, magazines, letters, contracts and printouts. Multi-column layouts are read in the correct order and paragraphs are kept separate.
Handwritten notes. Meeting notes, journal pages and filled-in forms. Uncertain words are marked [unclear]. The handwriting to text page gives the model extra guidance for messy writing.
Receipts and invoices. Thermal receipts, restaurant bills and parking tickets. Totals, dates and vendor names come out intact. The receipt scanner adds line-item structure.
Signs, boards and displays. Street signs, notice boards, whiteboards after a meeting, and information displays in stations and museums. Text in another language can be translated in the same step with the image translator.
