Text trapped inside an image is useless until you can select it. A photo of a contract, a scan of a book page, a screenshot of an error, a picture of a poster: none of them can be searched, copied or edited. ImagToText extracts the text from an image in seconds and gives it back to you as plain text or Markdown you can paste anywhere.
The extraction runs on an AI vision model rather than traditional OCR. Instead of matching letter shapes one at a time, the model reads the whole image in context, the same way a person does. That is why it keeps paragraphs and tables intact, reads text photographed at an angle, and handles handwriting, unusual fonts and mixed languages without any settings.
There is nothing to install and no account to create. Open the page, drop the image in, and copy the result. It works the same in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, on a desktop, a tablet or a phone. Paste from the clipboard with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V to skip the file picker entirely.
Photos of documents. Contracts, letters, forms, certificates and book pages photographed with a phone. The AI compensates for angle, shadow and page curvature in its reading, so you rarely need to crop or straighten first. For document photos taken on an iPhone, HEIC files are converted automatically.
Screenshots. Error dialogs, chat threads, social posts, code and terminal output. UI elements such as buttons and menus are read as labels rather than merged into the body text. The screenshot to text page is tuned specifically for these.
Scans and faxes. Flatbed scans, multi-column articles and old typewritten pages, including low-contrast and slightly skewed scans. Multi-page material is easier through the PDF to text converter.
Signs, labels and packaging. Street signs, product labels, menus, posters and whiteboards. Text on a busy background or in a decorative font is separated from the design around it.
Handwriting. Notes, letters and filled-in forms. Words the model cannot read with confidence are marked [unclear] so you can correct them. The handwriting to text page adds extra care for ambiguous characters.
Drag and drop any image, paste it from your clipboard with Ctrl+V, or take a photo on your phone. JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, BMP, GIF, TIFF and SVG are all accepted up to 10 MB.
The AI vision model scans the image and extracts all visible text, keeping line breaks, lists and table columns. Results stream in within seconds.
Edit the result inline, copy it to your clipboard with one click, or download it as a plain text or Markdown file.
Fill the frame. The more of the image the text occupies, the more pixels each character gets. Move closer or crop before uploading when the text is small.
Avoid glare. Glossy paper and screens reflect light into a white patch that hides the text underneath. Tilt the page or turn off the flash.
Use the original file. A screenshot of a screenshot, or an image that has been through a messaging app, has been recompressed and blurred. Upload the original whenever you have it.
Pick the right output. Plain text keeps things simple for pasting into a message. Markdown keeps headings, bullet lists and tables when the image has structure you want to preserve.
Traditional OCR was built for flat, well-lit scans of printed documents. ImagToText reads the kind of images people actually have: phone photos, screenshots and pictures with text on top of a design.
| Feature | AI Vision (ImagToText) | Traditional OCR |
|---|---|---|
| Accuracy on photos | 99%+ on clear images, reads skewed and low-contrast text | Drops sharply on photos that are not flat scans |
| Layout | Keeps paragraphs, lists and table columns | Often outputs one long block of text |
| Handwriting | Reads most handwriting, marks unclear words | Usually fails or produces garbage characters |
| Languages | Auto-detects, including mixed-language images | Requires choosing a language pack first |
| Setup | Nothing to install, works in the browser | Desktop software or a mobile app |
